I observed a third grade classroom as one of my very first observation hours in 2011. I noticed the kids were excellent listeners and hard workers, I asked the teacher if they were always like that or if it was only because I was there. She then told me about her motivational system that she believed worked very well with students in grades 3rd through 5th. Each student had a apple on the wall with their name on both sides of the apple. One side of the apple was a good, smiling, happy apple while the other side was a rotten, sad apple. When students were misbehaving or not doing their work they had to turn their apple to the bad side, this was a weekly thing and they had a chance to get it moved back to the good side until Friday at lunch. For every student whose apple was still on the good side they got to have their lunch in the classroom while watching a movie and the teacher would provide popcorn.

Kids get a chance to earn a sparkler if they successfully transition between classroom activities. If they get a sparkler for every transition they get a reward at the end of the day.This is good for kindergarten classrooms.

This classroom management system is a great way to motivate students in the classroom as well. The students can earn tickets for completing work and doing good on test. Then they can use the tickets to buy school supplies they might need and to sit by their friend for a day.

In my placement every time a student or a class as a whole get a compliment the teacher will take a handful of marbles and put them in a jar. When the marbles reach the top of the jar the class get rewarded with lunch in the classroom with a movie or another thing of the teachers choice.

Teachers are now using folders to put around a student's desk while they are taking tests. This packet comes with many motivational cut and paste items you can paste on the students folder for when they look up during their test for motivation.

Each student has their own chain, for every test the student reads and passes an AR test over they write the name of the book and add it to their chain. Once they reach a number set by their teacher they get a prize.
